Ate here for lunch with some co-workers. Food was pretty good, but not worth the price in my opinion. The service was pretty good too. My lunch was $28 before tip! Below is what i ordered. 1) Cheese dip (to share with my 3 co-workers) 2) The qty 6 tamales (they are kind of small, but 6 was quite a bit of food). I think the qty 3 might have been a bit too small. 3) small side cup of rice. 4) small side cup of chili and cheese dip which I think go with the tamales, but costed extra. 5) Unsweet tea. $28 plus $6 tip. For $34 I could have had a much nicer lunch.

I went early afternoon and successfully avoided a long wait. I loved the cheese dip. I also recommend the chicken tacos. It's the most perfectly grilled chicken I've had in Arkansas! I don't even like rice, and I liked the rice side! You must also spring for dessert; either the cake or ice cream is a good choice!

They may not take reservations, they may not do to go, but there are worse places that you could go to sit and have a great meal. Let's take you back to a Sunday in September, and my first experience with Heights Taco & Tamale... I was late, I was late, for a very important meet up (you thought I was going to say date), and upon my arrival my friends had chips and queso ready. It was delicious... I sat and perused the drink menu... nothing says Sunday Funday like a bevery or two, and my eyes were honed in on the HT&Tea. Bourbon and their black tea, I sat back indulging on this fine drink and decided that the Breakfast Tacos with Cilantro Lime Rice, and The Cucumber Tomato Mint Salad would be my late lunch. The meal arrived well plated and looked just a great as it tasted. The play on that basic taco was fantastic. The runny egg was a great touch and totally completed the plate. The rice was by far my favorite side. With the salad coming in at completely average. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but it didn't hold a candle to the rest. I can only assume that from reading previous reviews that the HT&T has made an effort to lower the volume of the awesome soundtrack that was playing in the background. The tunes were great and not intrusive. It is actually what I play on Sunday when I am making my own brunch. I digress, I was able to chat with my friends and had some grand interactions. Heck, it was so lacking in it's intrusive ways that my friends were able to hear the argument between the couple sitting next to us, ha! Anywho, all and all, I will be back and I will enjoy every moment of this new eatery. It is on my list of go -to restaurants in LR, and now that I know about it I'll always start my experience with a little HT&Tea.

I was in a weak spot having a travel hangover and I called up. They said they just recently started take out service, thank jesus. I got the breakfast tacos and my life was saved. I could feel myself getting stronger with each bite. My husband had the pickle fried chicken tacos and lord help us, they are amazing. They taste a little bit like chick-fil-a batter but with a yummy pickle kick. I'm so happy they do take out now!

Food and service was food. Dessert was another story. I git charged $6 for a scap of cake. I would go back for the tamales but will never get dessert again. I feel cheated and didappointed. $6 bucks is a lot for what I was given!

First thing, this place is very loud. Be prepared for that. One of the must visit if you are in little rock. Their rice and beans are fantastics. Their other food is good, but their sides is where they shines. Proportions is pretty good too.

You won't be able to hear yourself think with the noise level. I was with my husband and teen son. The waitress couldn't hear their orders. Having a higher pitched voice I was able to scream their orders to her. It was that bad. Good thing the decor is so beautiful and interesting; you're going to spend a lot of time looking around since conversation is impossible. We ordered a queso appetizer. After about a 30 min wait on food our server stops by and asks if we're sure we don't want an appetizer while we wait. We mentioned that we were still waiting for the queso and she got that 'oh crap' look on her face. She'd forgotten to put it in; it happens. Instead of making it right immediately, the queso is delivered about 5 minutes later with the rest of our food by another server. We weren't asked if we still wanted it and it would have been nice for them to comp it; which it wasn't. The tamales were really good. The food was pretty good but seemed overpriced. Tax is not included on alcoholic beverage menu prices. Expect a $2 minimum in tax to be added to each drink. I've had much better dining experiences and food elsewhere. Don't plan to go back.

I really wanted to like this place, I really did. But I just don't. I had the fried chicken tacos and they were just... Meh. They came with rice and the tomato, cucumber and mint "salad," which was anything but. I also got the salsa trio with the house tomato, green chili and jalapeño cream salsas. The house was pretty generic. The green tasted like it came in a can and the jalapeño cream tasted like someone made instant French onion dip and added sour cream and one tiny piece of jalapeño and threw it in a food processor. I felt like everything was just... Off. Everything tries to be complex, but completely falls flat. It's like the leftovers from what didn't make the cut at Local Lime were just thrown together onto a menu here. On that note, you get more for your money taco-wise at Local Lime. So I'll stick to Local Lime unless they improve by leaps and bounds.

Atmosphere was popping due to the newness of the restaurant. Service was top notch! Frozen margaritas were extremely tasty. Great bar area!! I tried the tamales. Came with crackers & I ordered a side of chili with it. Chili was nice and meaty with great spices.Tamales were delicious but on the small side. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was they only had one choice of tamales. With tamales being part of your name I would have thought it'd be more of a staple on your menu.

I died and went to Mexican food heaven!! Had the salsa trio, verde enchilada, and guacamole. Started off with the frozen mojito, it comes with a complimentary coozie that u can take as a souvenir. The place is very clean, comfortable and friendly!! Staff is great! Food is FABULOUS!! I'll be here again!! And soon!!

The much hyped Heights Taco & Tamales is a hit! First let me say, the decor and design is fabulous. From the color scheme, to the tile floor, tables, and serveware: it has such a good vibe. Interesting and eclectric, modern and cool, yet not snobby in the least. The trio salsas are a given at $3.50. The marmalade one is amazing! Made even better mixed with the jalapeno dip. My husband and I split the chicken enchiladas and tamales. The enchiladas were our favorite. Service was lacking a little. We had a nice waitress, but she didn't seem very efficient. Even when they slowed down customer-wise. The hostess was sweet and checked on us several times, however. Overall, this is a great addition to our restaurant scene.

Ate here with some friends a couple weeks ago. Good food and decent atmosphere. The food was pretty good but very small servings and fairly expensive for what you get. Drinks were very good but also expensive. Might go back but probably not often.

LOUD LOUD LOUD! It was very hard to have a conversation with people at my own table. They should consider some type of noise reduction system (foam panels to absorb sound) and that might help. Maybe. As for the food, unfortunately I was not impressed overall. The tamales were tasty. They are small though so order 6 vs. 3 for an entree. The place is hopping so apparently others are enjoying it but the noise level is nerve-racking which makes for a chaotic atmosphere.

Fantastic combination of tradition LR flavors, with a contemporary Tex-Mex offering.

  • Lizzie B.

The grilled chicken and lightly fried fish tacos were delicious. Not sure how those tortillas were made, but my were they a perfect compliment. The pinto and black bean sides were lovely as well. The decor is nice, the atmosphere is abuzz, but not too buzzy, and the service is excellent. Looking forward to Round 2 and trying the tamales!

  • Laura F.

Not sure this place knows what it wants to be. It's like it threw a little bit of everything together in order to create something new and call it Ark-Mex. it just doesn't work. Instead many items come off as bizarre and unappetizing. If they just did the Mex part, it would be better. The black beans were delicious. The Hatch green chile salsa is pretty good and a distinguishing item since Hatch green chile items are hard to find here. There are no free chips and salsa but a pick three salsa appetizer instead. Only two of the salsas looked appealing so we opted against ordering it.

  • Heather B.

This place was just okay. It has a fun atmosphere to go to with friends. The fish tacos were crispy (good), oily, and a bit too salty for me. The tamale was tiny and tasted more like chorizo. The chicken tacos were good, not great. The flour tortillas tasted fresh. The BEST part of the meal was actually the beginning with the chips and trio salsa. Delicious! Far superior to Local Lime's chips and salsa. However, the entrees are much more flavorful at Local Lime. If you are looking for legit tacos/tamales, do not come here. However, this would be a fun place to go to after work for chips and margaritas.

So good my sister and I went on a Saturday for an early dinner and really in joyed them. If you are from Little Rock you know to get a margarita. Scott McGee that has several places in the Rock that are known for the margaritas and these of course were wonderful. The cheese dip was so good and had great chips. I got the nanchos and my sister got some sort of tacos and both were wonderful. For desert we split the chocolate sour cream cake and it was to die for, it's a huge slice so plenty to split.

Went here during their public soft opening. Love the atmosphere and the wait staff was similar to Local Lime/Big Orange. For drinks, I had the Whisky Fix and the HT&Tea, with the winner bring the HT&Tea. Seriously though, Yellow Rocket Concepts put out one of the best drink menus at all their restaurants. For food, I had the three salsa dip and the Plato 1947. The three salsas I got were delicious but little disappointed that it wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. One thing to note is that their entrees are heavy so either come on an empty stomach or prepare to take some home or split it with someone. Probably the weakest restaurant in terms of food from Yellow Rocket Concepts but that's probably because I don't really eat Tex-Mex (or Ark-Mex as they call it). It is one of the better Tex-Mex in Little Rock. I'll definitely be back to watch Razorback games or drink with people, but in terms of food, I'll probably stick to the salads and appetizers here from now on.

If you are dining with friends and you are wanting to have any type of conversation -- do not go here. The NOISE LEVEL IS SO EXTREME that you literally have to yell to be heard and, in return, the wait staff has to yell to be heard -- which just makes the whole place that much louder. It doesn't matter how good the food is (which it is) -- unless you are going to eat by yourself or are bringing children and not wanting to worry about their noise level -- stay away

  • Paul O.

Been twice now and both times were great. It's a little noisy inside so it makes it hard to hear conversation at table at times, but that's about the only negative. Delta mule is hands down the best vodka drink I have ever had. Food is on point and I feel for the location its priced well cheap.

Recommended by a friend while we were visiting and didn't disappoint. Great ambience in the building. All the wait staff worked together and were extremely pleasant and worked quickly. Knowledgable about the menu and gave good recommendations. My mom had the pickled fried chicken tacos, and I had the chicken enchiladas verdes, both which were great. Authentic Mexican taste in a tex-Mex style. For those looking to drink, have several craft beers on tap, as well as a rotating local craft on tap. Also a handful of specialty cocktails. Cheese dip is great, we got it mixed with the green chile salsa which I recommend.

Great Food! Great atmosphere! Good prices! Friendly staff! Love this place!!! Salsas were very good! Tamales come as an appetizer or main course in a bundle of 3 or 6. Add cheese dip and chile for just $1 each. Worth it. I want to try the Tacos next time. A winner!!!

The environment is super trendy, and we were very excited when we heard that this restaurant was opening practically down the street from our house. Unfortunately, the restaurant is very loud, VERY LOUD. To the point where you're shouting across the small table at the person you're dining with. The best thing about Heights Taco is the Guacamole and the Cheese dip appetizers. However, the actual entrees leave something to be desired. I ordered the Gulf Shrimp Fajitas, which came out sizzling and smelling wonderful, but as I took the first bite I realized that the shrimp was severely over-seasoned. Very salty and spicy... but not inedible. The chicken tacos are a bit bland, also. You honestly could find better at Chipotle (and not to knock Chipotle, because they really do have the best chicken tacos ever).

    (2)
  • Cindy L.

The food was excellent but the noise will hit you in continuous waves as an almost physical force. Not for a first date but maybe an evening with the in-laws.

  • Cici P.

Waited more than 10 minutes for a waiter, no menu, no water, nothing. Someone arrives with an armload of dirty dishes only to help the couple who arrived after us. Not sure I'm coming back with such terrible service right from the start.

  • Dona B.

Definitely worth the drive to Little Rock! Great service! Friendly general manager who was interested in our first dining experience there. Food was superb. My husband had the fish tacos and I had the platter. Best cheese enchiladas I have ever eaten. Frozen mojito was awesome!

  • Paul M.

My review is likely tempered by all the hype this place has received. The chips and 3 salsa/dip combo was excellent. The namesake tacos and tamales were just ok. The tamale's tasted like they were cooked using the recipe on the back of a can of enchilada sauce. Very disappointing. The taco's were ok, just very bland. Overall the atmosphere was nice. The service was very good. The food was disappointing.

We tried this place for lunch the other day. I wasn't impressed with the side selection at all. The cheese dip came out like it had been sitting in the back for a while and needed to be stirred but it was really good. The tacos are good but no different than anywhere else with tacos. Overall, it was decent but not what I expected. The atmosphere was nice and I like that they try to buy local as much as possible.

We ate here Saturday before Memorial Day. We had the cheese dip which was delicious. It reminds me of the dip at a burger joint where I grew up. I had the fish tacos, yummy. My hubs got the sampler platter and he was pleased. We enjoyed this much more than Local Lime.

Really trendy spot with a great menu, good food, and a laid-back atmosphere. The prices are slightly high for the portions, but the quality is good and they have a great "sampler" option for $16 where you can get a taco, tamale, guacamole tostada, enchilada, as well as two sides. I really liked their fried chicken taco. It's a southern twist with some "special sauce" on it. Overall, good flavor, good options, higher prices, and friendly service. I would recommend checking this place out.

The food was excellent but the noise will hit you in continuous waves as an almost physical force. Not for a first date but maybe an evening with the in-laws.

Definitely worth the drive to Little Rock! Great service! Friendly general manager who was interested in our first dining experience there. Food was superb. My husband had the fish tacos and I had the platter. Best cheese enchiladas I have ever eaten. Frozen mojito was awesome!

Their chicken tacos, guacamole, and cheese-dip are excellent.

Sat down and was immediately introduced to waiter. Great menu selection and service. Food arrived promptly and was flavorful. Overall great experience!

Waited more than 10 minutes for a waiter, no menu, no water, nothing. Someone arrives with an armload of dirty dishes only to help the couple who arrived after us. Not sure I'm coming back with such terrible service right from the start.

Another great meal at HT&T last night! Amazing food & cocktails! The pulled pork nachos are wonderful and you must order the chocolate cake!!

We ate here Saturday before Memorial Day. We had the cheese dip which was delicious. It reminds me of the dip at a burger joint where I grew up. I had the fish tacos, yummy. My hubs got the sampler platter and he was pleased. We enjoyed this much more than Local Lime.

Tried it at lunch. Took a little while to get seated and order and get our check. So def don't go here if you are not wanting to spend 1+hours. Food was awesome. Service B- Parking is horrible. Horrible.

So delicious and good for gluten free! We had the tamales, pulled pork tacos, cheese dip, and three amazing salsas! The margaritas are so good too!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
